Books mentioned in the January Newsletter

I referenced Dutch Sheets in the January newsletter in talking about prayer bowls, but didn’t give specifics. Two books I recommend are

Intercessory Prayer
By Dutch Sheets

and

Beginner’s Guide to Intercession
By Dutch Sheets

And in case you missed the newsletter or you’d like to subscribe, Focus on Prayer Newsletter.

The 8th Day of Creation

Monday, January 14th, 2008

The other day, I was reminded of a television “show” I produced in college as a project for a film and television class. I called it The 8th Day of Creation. Pretty simple and straightforward, I used various visual images while the narrator and a friend were watching creation as depicted in Genesis. The narrator was Lucifer and his friend was one of his chief demons. Needless to say, they were a bit put out by what God had done. It seemed their situation was hopeless. But then, on the 8th day, after God had rested, Lucifer came up with an idea–a creation of his own. He called it “Money” and assured his friend that it would go a long way to undo all the good God had done.

My theology back then wasn’t exactly well thought-out and mature. So I couldn’t differentiate between something God created and the twisting that takes place by Satan. But money certainly is one of Satan’s favorite tools, thousands of days after its actual “creation.”

Jesus the only way?

Monday, January 14th, 2008

I’m really really uncomfortable with the concept of Jesus claiming to be the one and only way to God. What about all the people who never hear of him? What about all the people who lived before him–like Moses, Elijah, Joshua, etc.? It seems to me we could attract a lot more people into the “fold” if we didn’t turn them off first by claiming it’s our way or the highway.

The 11 Day Path–Overcoming Stumbling Blocks to Belief

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Too many people get bogged down in the wilderness of unanswered questions about God, Jesus, Christianity and the Bible. These stumbling blocks delay or derail the spiritual journey. The 11 Day Path provides answers to 9 key questions and it offers practical advice for your spiritual journey. Startling, thought-provoking–you probably won’t hear these answers in a sermon on Sunday. Pre-publication copies are available for a free download or the paperback version can be purchased. The feedback about The 11 Day Path has been very positive, with suggestions that it would be great for discipleship programs as well as evangelism and outreach.
